What Causes Severe Pain And Burning Sensation On Breasts?

default
Posted on Fri, 29 Jul 2016
Question: Thank you. Six days ago I tripped over a case of water. I landed on my left side on tiled floor. Instantly I had severe pain and burning on the left side of my breast extending to the side of my back. I have 4 arrow shaped titanium markers in the side of my breast, and I am wondering if this is causing my severe pain, and not my broken humerus that did not heal properly. I broke my upper arm a year ago, straight across and with quite a few breaks going downward. It was also said that I have several torn rotator cuffs. This was based on x-rays and symptoms. Unfortunately, the fractures did not heal properly, and the rotator cuffs were not looked at. The pain I have now is all consuming. It is extremely painful to cough, sneeze, and clear my throat. It is painful to breathe, and to go from leaning forward to leaning back. I cannot lay on that side, or move the arm back, or carry heavy items. To sum this up, I'm not sure what I've injured. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated. Sincerely,

Brief Answer:
Chest wall injury likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The difficulty in coughing, sneezing and to take deep breaths is not likely to be related to rotator cuff problem or unhealed humerus fracture. This is more likely to be a chest wall injury. An X-ray is needed to confirm the diagnosis.
Till then you need to avoid all painful movements, take mild pain killers and have rest. Do not carry any loads. Using a chest belt might help in providing some relief. Do consult your orthopedician for stronger prescription medicines in case over the counter drugs are not helpful.
I hope this answers your query.
