default
Posted on Wed, 18 Feb 2015
Question: I was having severe neck pain and stiffness that when I mopved it made sharp pain s in my upper left chest and shoulder. They checked me me for a heart attack, but everthing came back perfect. Blood pressure is god, EKG was perfect, pulse was was good, and chest x-ray was good. They were also checked for a blood clot in my lung. So they said they couldn't figure out anything. sent me home with pain pils and told me to relax. Is it possible I have a pinched nerve in my neck ? Or back ? They also just raised my Trazadone from 100mg to 200 mg because of insomnia. And I noticed it said a side effect can be muscle pain and aches.

Brief Answer:
Yes, pinched nerve is a possibility.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and am glad to note that your investigations for heart/lung disease are within normal limits.

Pinched nerve in the neck is a possibility and it can be diagnosed with the help of an MRI of cervical spine.

It would respond to medications such as pregabalin capsules.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

Is there any way that it could heal on it's own, and is the capsules you mentioned a prescription. At the hospital they just gave me pain medicine and told me to take it easy and relax for a few days. The norco has helped with the pain. It comes back after the pills wear off. I have an appointment with my regular physician next week.

Brief Answer:
It heals on own in most cases.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

Yes, it heals on own in most people (about 70-80% of cases).

Pregabalin is a prescription medicine and you can ask your regular physician to prescribe it.

You can also discuss about getting an MRI scan done if the symptoms are still troublesome.

Best wishes,
