What Causes Severe Headache With Floaters In Vision?

default
Posted on Thu, 8 Oct 2015
Question: Ok. I had a terrible attack of pain in my head, not a head ach, behind my right eye. My family doctor said it must have been a rupture in a small vein. I subsequently went to my eye doctor as a few days after the pain I had a floater in my right eye. He said the pain had nothing to do with the floater.
Have had a second visit with my eye doctor for a larger floater in my other eye. My eye doctor is now concerned as he can see blood but no tear in the retna. What could be causing the bleeding?

Brief Answer:
Most likely high blood pressure, diabetes and vein occlusion also probably.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for posting your query here at HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Conditions that may cause retinal hemorrhage include high blood pressure, retinal vein(s) occlusion and diabetes.

Since you experienced headaches too, most probably it was high blood pressure.

However, in my opinion, you should discuss with your primary care Doctor about being checked up with appropriate tests for all these three possibilities.

Since there was retinal bleeding and a sharp headache, there are chances also that small brain hemorrhage has occurred, so, brain imaging is needed as well to evaluate this possibility.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I could assist you further.

Take care.
