Posted on Thu, 27 Apr 2017
Question: Around 3:00am on Sunday(2) days ago had a hard time urinating, and had some diarrhea. Got on a flight from OR to NYC. Arrive in NYC with body aches and pains. Checked into hotel and slept from 4:00pm EDT to 6:00am the next day. Drinking water and still having burning sensation while urinating. Also, aches and pains + severe headache. Ate a bit of b-fast, went to my meeting. Felt week. Flew back to OR. Slept from 9:00pm-7:00am PDT waking up 3 times drenched. Still having issues urinating. Today, in office, feeling tired, somewhat weak, some level of headache and now it hurts to remain seated. IE: "but" pain. Thoughts?

Hi,
Firstly thanks for choosing this forum to ask your query.

Most likely your are having urinary tract infection. Most of the times UTI is caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli), a type of bacteria commonly found in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. However, sometimes other bacteria are responsible.

Common symptoms of UTI are-
A burning feeling when you urinate.A frequent or intense urge to urinate, even though little comes out when you do other symptoms are fatigue, malaise and lassitude.

Suggestions-
Get a urine routine and micriscopy done.
Take 3 days course of a broad spectrum antibiotic like Cefixime.
Anti inflammatory like Diclofenac can be taken to relieve pain and burning.
Di hydrogen citrate syrup should be taken to make urine acidic.
Drink 3-4 litre of water daily.
Ultra sound KUB to rule out kidney stones.

Thanks for working with me on this.. I'm not often sick but this one hurts...Assuming this is a Urinary tract infection, do I need the Cefixime or will this run its' course over time? Speaking of time... How long might that be?
Are there over the counter Anit-inflammatory meds you would recommend?

Hi again,
Cefixime is a third generation cephalosporin highly effective against gram negative E coli. A couse of it should be taken for 3 days to kill the bacteria's.
You can use ibuprofen (over the counter) anti inflammatory analgesic along with it.
