What Causes Severe Fatigue While Suffering From Constipation And Frequent Urination?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Jan 2017
Question: my husband has a problem with constipation and urinating. He feels he has to pee often, then finds It hard
to do so, then it's slow, and in the end still dribbles when he should be done. His doctors had him take mirilax and ducolax for constipation, as he had been feeling ill from being too "clogged up". Main concern is heis so very tired all the time and requires so much sleep-- he has been trying to ride the stationery bike 15-10 minutes a day. Sometimes feel dizzy and once in awhile confused. His blood tests showed no reasons for the fatigue and his doctor prescribed a sleep test for apnea. I feel we must be missing something.

Brief Answer:
There might be many reasons for tiredness- explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for asking at HCM.
I carefully read your question and understand your concern.

Tiredness is a symptom that is not specific for a certain disease and it's causes can be many.

Some blood tests might be helpful in investigation of tiredness (CBC, ERS, TSH, creatinine, electrolyte, liver tests, sugar test, etc). If your husband had these tests and all are normal this is very reassuring.

Sleep test is a good idea as sleep apnea can cause tiredness during the day.

Infections might be a reason for tiredness also. I would recommend you have a Urinalysis and urineculture to try to rule out urinary infection. It there isurinary infection or prostate infection your husband needs antibiotics.

A check of the heart might be good also with ECG and heart Ultrasound just to make sure the heart is functioning well.

If all tests come out negative than depression is something to consider and a screen for depression by the family doctor might be helpful.

There is a syndrome called chronic fatigue syndrome that we use when nothing specific is found and this is thought to happen after certain viral infections and your husband should have tiredness for 6 months at least to be considered this diagnosis if examinations donot find a certain cause.

I hope this answers to your question and is helpful to you.

Kind regards,

Dr Antoneta Zotaj
