Question: I have recently had a significant increase in facial and scalp oil. I have experience a lot of unexplainable fatigure, joint/muscle aches, and have had a lot of diarrhea/loose stools. I am wondering if these are connected/inter-related symptoms. I haven't really changed my lifestyle at all, so I can't find a reason for them.

Brief Answer:
No, I don't think all your symptoms are inter-related.

Detailed Answer:
Hello ,
I read carefully your query and understood your concern.

It is difficult to find a single medical condition that connects all your symptoms.
In my opinion: Diarrhea, Fatigue and Joint/muscle pain can be related in conditions like Viral syndrome or Viral gastroenteritis. These are viral infections and the diagnose is based on symptoms, the physical examination and sometimes on the presence of similar cases in your community.

The most common way to develop viral syndrome(flu) or viral gastroenteritis (often called stomach flu) is through contact with an infected person or by ingesting contaminated food or water.

Oily skin can be attributed to hormonal imbalance (A spike of androgens that happen (eg. just before your menstrual period, also called premenstrual syndrome).

Increase in facial and scalp oil can also be due to:

-hyperthyroidism
-Stress
-sleep deprivation or sleeping too late.
-dehydration or not drinking enough water

Your lifestyle can affect your hormones and the amount of sebum produced in your scalp and hair.
However, if you have not changed your lifestyle lately and you have a healthy lifestyle, I'd suggest to do the thyroid tests: TSH, free T3 and freeT4 to see if you have any thyroid dysfunction that can be the culprit of your symptoms.

Hope this is helpful.
If you have other question, feel free and ask. I'll be happy to help.
Take care.

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here... Hi there, my boyfriend has had a fever, vomiting and diarrhea, severe stomach cramps. He has had it since Thursday July 29th and it s almost been a week and he s still not back to normal. We thought he had the stomach flu. So on sunday August 1st we took him to emerengy. He was there for 2 days. His heart rate was up at 150 when it was suppose to be at 60-100. His blood pressure wasn t normal either. They took 3 blood tests, urine sample, xray test and a cat scan. Still they re were all fine. Dumb enough the docors couldn t even tell us what was the problem. They classified it as the stomach flu . I don t think it was especially when he has it for almost a week. He was also very dehydrated. They hooked an I.v. To him and injected almost 5 litres of fluids. His diarrhea wasn t normal, it was all runny and watery and had blood coming out. They got all the blood to stop. His heart rate and blood pressure to normal. He wasn t puking. He got told he could go home yesterday. But now he s having really bad cramps still. Is there any reason or anyone know why this si happening?? We need answers. He s been through so much already.Poor guy:(

I have had nausea for a week now. Feels like stomach nausea. Can feel my stomach turning even without food. Only minor diarrhea. Have been tired and a few muscle aches. Have not vomited once. I have no problem eating food. Could this be a stomach flu or something else going on?

Hi,

My symptoms began 2-3 weeks ago, I first thought I had the flu, I had nausea, diarrhea x 2days and weakness, no fever, no vomiting. I also had nervousness and was jittery inside. Went to the doctor and was told I have the stomach flu. I layed in bed for 5 days and could not eat. I was treated for dehydration in the hospital. I have had CBC, BMP, Sed rate, Bilirubin, CMP, urine tested and everything was within normal limits. Went to a different doctor for a second opinion and he thought it was mono. That turned out negative. I have been losing weight very rapidly. I have no appetite and am making myself eat to try and prevent losing more weight. I have been sick for two weeks and have lost 19 pounds during this time. The last 3 days I have had more energy and was actually able to work although I do not have an appetite and am still losing weight, sometimes I have chest tightness. Any idea what this could be? I am now waiting for the stool O&P and culture to come back. Could I have a parasite? Any ideas of what could be wrong with me?

Hello, I have had the stomach flu (I believe) since last Friday. I ate a deceent amount of solid food last night and the symptoms came back when I didn't have them the 2 previous nights. Should I see a doctor in person or is this something that I have to ride out?
