What Causes Severe Chest Pain When Diagnosed With High Blood Pressure?

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Jul 2016
Question: Hi, I have pain in my chest for the past three months. I have consulted a General Medicine Doctor for the same and she has checked my BP level and found bit elevated. So she asked me to do an ECG and the result was normal. She has diagnosed that due to high pressure there may be chest pain due to heavy pumping of blood. But now I am having the pain continuously every day. It will be feeling more when I wake up from bed or during sleeping. Most of the time the pain is in the left side and some times it occurs in right side and centre also. I am bit worried since its keep on happening for many months. During day time I dont feel pain but when I strech my both hands to both sides lifting up to the chest point I can feel the pain or pain can be reproduced like that. Please advice...

Brief Answer:
Most likely due to costochonditis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely due to costochondritis. Using NSAID gels like ketoprofen or diclofenac for local application will be helpful for this. Heat application is also good.
It is better to do a stress test (TMT) to rule out cardiac cause of it to be on safe side. Even if it is due to blood pressure it will be evident on TMT test.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.

Do you see any sign of cardiac reason for this pain. Because it usually occurs in the left side of the chest but rarely on the right side and center very rarely. Also sometimes it seems to be like a pointed pain.

Brief Answer:
Most likely it could be from ribs (costochonditis)

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up.

Cardiac pain is not point localized usually. Also cardiac pain will have radiation to other parts like left hands or back. Physical exertion can worsen cardiac pain also. Pointed pain and pain while stretching of hands are characteristic for costochondritis.

But it is better to do stress test after consulting a cardiologist to be on safe side. Stress test is indicated in long standing chest pain.
