Brief Answer:
Can be multiple causes, needs more details..

Detailed Answer:

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain Burning Mouth Syndrome is a condition in which there is burning sensation inside mouth and can also be associated with a scalded feeling and can also experience numbing sensation..

It can occur due to a number of causes of which common ones are like nutritional deficiency of iron and vitamin B12, dry mouth or xerostomia etc..

Please provide me a few more details so that I can guide you better.
1.Does your wife has acid reflux like having burning sensation in chest and sour taste in mouth with soreness in throat?
2.Does she has any allergies or is she on any medication?
3.Is there dryness in her mouth?
4.Is there a white coating on her tongue?
5.Has she ever been checked for Vitamin B12 and Haemoglobin/iron levels?
6. Is there any medical problem?
7. Since how long is the problem present?
8. Do she have any ulcers or redness or raw feeling inside mouth?

Please revert back with answers so that I can guide you better..

Brief Answer:
Get evaluated for salivary gland dysfunction and nerve damages..

Detailed Answer:

As per the answers if nothing above factors are found appropriate in your wife's case, then in that case you need to get further evaluations like functioning of the salivary glands done and also damage to secreto-motor fibres of the nerves that supply the salivary glands has to be checked to rule out the exact cause of the problem and then treatment can be done accordingly..

As of now to relieve the symptoms temporarily she can gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine.
Sucking ice pops can help..
Avoid spicy and sour foods..
Drink plenty of water..

Any further queries are welcome.
