Brief Answer:
more information is needed

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

this is a rather common situation. Frail people are prone to debilitating infections. Very old individuals may get disoriented and perhaps even comatose even with infections of mild or moderate severity. I can't comment on your father's case because I don't have that much information about it. The fact that he's not reacting or communicating is not a good sign.

If your doctor has a diagnosis and provides appropriate treatment then there's hope for your father. But this is a question for his doctor! Even serious infections can be treated and this kind of deterioration can be reversed. It all depends on the treatment and the patient's ability to fight the infection.

I hope you find my comments helpful!
If you'd like any clarification or further information, please specify your query and provide more information (like symptoms, lab tests, etc) and I'll be glad to continue this discussion.

Kind Regards!
