What Causes Ribbon Like Stool While On Prozac And Xanax?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Dec 2016
Question: I have recently been seeing thin sections on my stool.. seems to be initially as the stool first leaves the rectum .. kind of a curved , thin area, about an inch or so and then the rest of the stool seems normal. I have had a spastic colon since I was a child, I eat lots of fiber and little to no red meat. There is no bleeding or anything abnormal about the stools and I usually have a bowel movement daily or every other day. I suffer from anxiety am on Prozac and some xanax. Should I be concerned about the shape of my stools?

Just noticed a few days ago.. "no" to all the questions that you asked.

I had a colonoscopy in XXXXXXX 2014... no polyps and recommended another colonoscopy in 10 years.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir, Hi & Welcome back.
Thanks for your reply, noted its contents.

From the history given you seem to have infrequent thin stools for a couple of days which are actually harmless.

However, if the thin stools last longer than two weeks & are accompanied by other symptoms like changes in bowel habits, constipation, diarrhea, bloating, persistent cramps or rectal pain and/or bleeding then you need to consult your doctor immediately to rule out the possible underlying cause such as inflammatory bowel diseases, polyps, or colon cancer.

Continue taking high fiber diet like green leafy vegetables, fruits, oats, cereals, etc. Avoid red meat, alcohol, fatty meals & sweet carbonated soft drinks.
Do regular exercise and take plenty of oral fluids not only to maintain good hydration but also to avoid constipation.

Hope the advice given above would be useful.

Wishing you best of your health.
Take care.
