What Causes Redness On Penis And White Sticky Penile Discharge Post Intercourse?

Question: Hi,
approx 8 weeks ago I had condom protected sex with a sex worker, which involved a few minutes of oral followed by about 10 mins of vaginal penetration (both protected ~ as far as I am aware I do not believe there was any breakage of the Condom). A day after the encounter I started having bad anxiety and worrying that I had caught something, over the next 6 days I noticed my glans get red and I was urinating frequently.

Exactly 1 week after the encounter I saw my GP who gave me urine and blood tests to check for STDs (I believe they test for most everything but am unsure about trichomoniasis), she also gave me some antibiotics while I waited for the results (cephalexin ~ 2 pills in the morning and 2 at night for 5 days) my results came back a few days later (all clear) but I finished the course of antibiotics anyway.

Approx 2 weeks after I saw my GP (3 weeks after the encounter) the redness on my glans (which arrived after the encounter and persisted for the 3 weeks) seemed to get worse, this was during the holidays and it was difficult to see my GP, I had a repeat prescription for the Cephalexin and began taking them until I could see my GP again which I was able to do a few days after starting the antibiotics again. She told me I was stressing too much and gave me some hydrozole cream, she also gave me another urine test to check for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea only, the test was clear again.

The hydrozole cream had minimal effect for the redness on my glans and I began noticing a clear discharge from my penis (clear like water and very sticky) I returned to my GP again who refused to test me again for STDs but did give me a urine test to check for infection (not specific to STDs) and gave me another round of antibiotics (this time Augmentin Duo Fort ~ the same 2 pills in morning and 2 at night for 5 days) I completed the 5 day course of these antibiotics.

It has now been about 8 weeks since the encounter, I have been using the hydrozole cream on and off and it does seem to be slowly clearing up the redness on my glans.

HOWEVER, this afternoon I had discharge again, more than the usual slight sticky wetness at the end of my penis, this time a CLEAR sticky liquid that I could literally pull out of my penis (it was about 3cm in length, did not break when pulled on and slid right out ~ sorry for the graphic description) . I had urinated earlier and had NOT been aroused at all. I did however have a bowel movement shortly after (about 10 mins after I noticed the discharge).

I am scared that I have something that is not showing up, I am frightened of passing this on too someone else. could my blood test have been too early? Could antibiotics have thrown off my second and third tests? What is causing this clear discharge?

A quick note about the red glans, it gets worse when I am erect though sometimes noticeable even when I am not. I have very tiny red spots (like the sharp end of a needle size) that cover the whole glans but they are not raised, they do not hurt, they do not itch, they are not liquid filled and are not the type of small spots that could burst or even have liquid) I have had no burning during or after urination or ejaculation. I have been using the hydrozole every night for the past 5 days and it is looking better, I did not have ANY redness before this encounter (which was protected)

Brief Answer:
Eczema is a possibility.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be due to eczema. This can be caused from the condom you used. It can be from allergy to latex or chemicals used in the condom.

As hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid which is present in small quantity in hydrozole cream you are getting some relief. So using more potent cortcosteroid creams like clobetasol for local application and taking antihistamines like cetirizine will be helpful for this. Clobetasol is a prescription steroid. You can approach your GP for this.

If no improvement a consultation with dermatologist is well appreciated.

The small spots on glans you described is most likely fordyce spots. These are modified sebaceous prominences and are harmless.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.

Hi,

I have fordyce spots on my shaft but have never had these tiny red spots on the glans, they are VERY very small, when erect the whole glans goes red.

The skin does not peel or have any other irritation.. It does not itch or burn or anything like that.

Would eczma cause clear penile discharge??? The redness seems to be clearing with the hydrozole, my MAIN concern is the clear discharge from my urethra..

Hi,

I have seen my GP who did a visual inspection but did not suspect eczma.

However, tonight I noticed a white streak on my tongue (a thin white streak from the back of my throat to the tip of my tongue)

My tngue usually gets dirty throughout the day as I drink coffee, but usually it is a darker coffee color stain on my tongue.. However this streak was much lighter/whiter and could be seen seperately from the nrmal stain.

It came clean with normal cleaning of my tongue with my toothbrush.

Could this be oral thrush?? AND does that mean my red glans culd also be caused by thrush? Would penile thrush causes a clear sticky discharge?? Is it possible to have both penile and oral thrush at the same time? Could it be an indication of a more serius problem??

Brief Answer:
Not likely to be oral thrush.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up query.

It is not likely an oral thrush. There can be irritation in tongue also in case of oral thrush.

As you are having a doubt about thrush you can go for a HIV Duo test to rule out HIV.

Also thrush will get worse by using corticosteroid creams. So it is most unlikely.

In case of immunodeficiency like HIV thrush can be present in oral cavity as well as genital area.
Clear sticky discharge is not so specific for thrush. But more for eczema.
A consultation with a dermatologist is well appreciated.
