What Causes Redness Near Rectum, Mucus Rectal Discharge And Frequent Bowel Movement?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Jan 2015
Question: My daughter adopted a special needs (Autistic) boy who is seven. He has had a red bottom and he has had four bowel movements today. They have gotten progressively better throughout the day. He eats the same thing everyday when he is with us (there is a visitation with someone else) but was with someone else this past weekend and came home with his bottom raw. HIs last diaper (he is not potty trained yet) had a large mucus discharge that I can best describe as looking like congealed broth gravy - translucent - about the size of a quarter.

Brief Answer:
Likely to be due to Proctocolitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcaremagic
Greetings of the day
Dear Ms

Raw bottom is likely to be due to increased bowel movements causing excoriation. I hope there is no pain or bleeding while passing stools. Large mucous discharge along with increased bowel movements suggest possibility of Proctocolitis (inflammation of rectum and colon ) as cause of symptoms.

I would suggest you the following
1. Hot Seitz bath : To a tub of lukewarm water add 2 spoons of antiseptic solution. Make child sit in it for 15 to 20 minutes each session twice a day. Do dry off the area

2. Local application of Zinc oxide paste : it will help relieve redness

3. Probiotic can be given

I would also suggest you to send me clinical photograph for further assessment for severity.

Awaiting your response

Take care
