What Causes Redness And Swelling Around The Lingual Frenulum After Having Oral Sex?
Question: Hi, a few days ago I had unprotected oral sex with my girlfriend and now my lingual frenulum is slightly red and swollen at the base. My girlfriend said she was tested in February and was clean for everything and hasn't done anything since but part of me is still concerned about a possible STI. Any advice or thoughts about what the cause may be?

Redness and swelling of the frenum of the tongue is not necessarily due to STD /HIV. If you had oral sex with your partner, the rubbing of frenum against teeth can cause such lesion. Not to worry. It will heal spontaneously.

What would you recommend to help the healing process? Anti-inflammatory medication?

Most often it will heal on its own as our saliva contains antiseptic action.
If it is annoying you can apply some antiseptic oral gel contains Hexidine Chlorhexidine along with saline gargle.
In case if your problem does not get solved with these measures, you have to meet a physician and rule out STD and you can take antibiotics tablets through oral route.
