What Causes Red To Dark Colored Vaginal Discharge?

Question: Hi, I got done Copper T in 2011, and immediate after that my periods became irregular and after every 6 months I developed UTI. My Gynaecologist said its expected as Copper T is a foreign body and you body is not accepting it, but this will settle after few cycles. She also gave me few medicines. This behaviour got settled after I completed that medicine course, and I never got UTI after that. However nature of my periods have changed. I get them for more days now as compared to pre Copper T times, but thats ok with me. Real problem is that I get a little pink/red discharge daily that grows darker as it proceeds to period cycle. My question is – is this ok, or I need to worry? Thank you, XXXXX

Pink/ red to dark colored vaginal discharge may be due to pelvic infection or Copper T itself. Other cause could be cervical or uterine polyp, mental stress, hormonal imbalance etc. In this case, I suggest you to proceed one pelvic examination with/ without speculum and undergo one pelvic ultrasound scan to rule out underling etiology and confirm the diagnosis. Kindly, consult with your gynecologist regarding this and take proper treatment according to test report. Lastly, I suggest to maintain genital hygiene properly, practice protected sex with condom until the problem is resolved, drink plenty of water and take sound sleep with avoidance of mental stress.
