What Causes Red Sore Bug Bite On Forehead?

default
Posted on Sat, 7 Jun 2014
Question: I was hiking in southeast Missouri two weeks ago in some state parks, next day I had a place on my forehead that looked like some kind of bug bite. I'm guessing it is a spider bite. Sore and red, hasn't changed much in the two weeks. Not sure what to do for treatment. Have just applied antibiotic ointment. What should I do now?

Brief Answer:
Do nothing for 2 more weeks and monitor!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this rash that you have mentioned. I have taken a look at the image and it doesn't really look like it is infected. it looks more like and excessive inflammatory reaction that has failed to subside over this time period. Generally, inflammatory tissue takes long to regress.

I will recommend that you stop applying any product to it and observe if there would be a progressive decrease in the size of the lesion or not. Should it fail, then we may want to apply products that can help prevent further growth and cause a reduction in size like topical steroids. Please, avoid manipulating it repeated using the hands as it serves as stimulation for more excessive growth.

In all, observe and apply nothing for now. Antibiotics ointment would not help. If it stays same in 2weeks, we would prescribe local drugs to halt further growth and cause regression.

I hope this addresses your query fully. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarification should need be.
