default
Posted on Thu, 31 Jul 2014
Question: waxed on Saturday then worked out . On Sunday, I went in hot tub plus had sex with my boyfriend. On Sunday night around midnight I flight a whole bunch of cyst like red bumps. They have continued to get worse. Went to nurse and she told me it's fliculitis on antibotic and topical benzoyl peroxide. Feel like I went to jump out if a window. I have been on antibotics for 22 hours... No relief.

Please help. Also my lymph nodes are enlarged the pimple like cysts are red slightly whitish some are hard some are soft about twenty to thirty

Brief Answer:
Hot Pool Folliculitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your query and I have understood it.

It is indeed bacterial infection of the hair follicles Or Folliculitis /Furunculosis.

You most likely got the infection from hot tub (there is an entity called hot tub folliculitis). Hot tub folliculitis is an eruption of scattered small red itchy or tender bumps, some of which are pustular. They mainly occur in areas that were covered by the swimming costume. Hot tub folliculitis is due to an opportunistic bacterial infection of the skin by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Pseudomonas can survive in warm water, even when adequately chlorinated.

I would suggest Oral Ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice daily for a week. You should continue with the antibiotics for a week. 22 hours is anyways too less a time for an oral antibiotic to produce noticeable improvement.

Topically you can use either 2% mupirocin ointment Or Neosporin ointment, twice daily instead of benzoyl peroxide.

Regards
