What Causes Recurring Red Bumps In Vagina?

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Apr 2014
Question: Since January, I have had red bumps appear in my vaginal area, they hurt and then go away in a few daysde. They are not blisters and they do not crust over, they just go away. They hurt. I went to my gyno and she cultured for herpes and yeast and it was negative, but I know there can be false negatives. The red bumps come about every 3-4 weeks and then go away -- but I am concerned as to why they keep coming back. Do you have any idea of what could be going on? Could it be herpes>

Brief Answer: Possibility of herpes or recurrent aphthosis Detailed Answer: Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic I am Dr. kakkar. I have gone through your concern It would be very difficult for me to be able to point out the exact cause of sores without having the opportunity to clinically examine, but I would keep a possibility of either Herpes genitalis Or recurrent Aphthosis. -Could you please upload a clear picture of the lesions in order for me to be able to help you better? Herpes simplex virus stays dormant in the nerve cells, causing no symptoms. In most people, the virus becomes active from time to time, travelling down the nerve cells to the skin and causing repeated blisters and sores (recurrent outbreaks). Primary infection with HSV is usually severe and is also accompanied by constitutional symptoms like fever and malaise etc. Recurrent infections are milder in intensity as compared to the primary. I would suggest that you get an HSV ELISA (IgG as well as IgM for both type I and Type II HSV) to confirm or rule out the diagnosis of genital herpes. regards

I was told by the doctor that herpes is always a blister and it always crusts over, this does not. It is a bunch of red bumps that go a way in a couple of days. I was also told by doctor that herpes does not go a way in a couple of days.? I was also told that herpes does not appear every 3 weeks? Could you respond to my questions? Thank you

Brief Answer: Possibility of herpes or recurrent aphthosis Detailed Answer: Hi. Herpes may not crust if the lesions are on the vaginal mucosa. Recurrent herpes is short lasting and self resolving (3-5 days)and sometimes even goes unnoticed in females. Recurrences can be as frequent as one after the other. Herpes can be diagnosed just on the basis of clinical examination because of the characteristic morphology. regards

Is herpes red and does it burn?

Brief Answer: Herpes has a painful/burning sensation Detailed Answer: Hi. Genital Herpes commonly presents as grouped discrete erosions on and around the genital skin/mucosa. There is surrounding redness and swelling and the lesions are either painful or have a burning sensation. There can be secondary bacterial infection of the herpetic erosions, which gives rise to increased pain and swelling and necessitates oral antibiotics to be administered in addition to the oral antivirals regards
