What Causes Recurrent Stomach Pain?

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Jun 2016
Question: I have been experiencing severe stomach pain on and off for the past 6 weeks. The pain is sometime so severe I almost pass out and have to lie down. I sometimes experience diarrhoea and have vomited. Mostly it is just severe pain and bloating. The pain is located in high up in my abdomen in the centre under my rib cage. I have had blood tests and an ultra sound but the only thing that showed up was a mild fatty liver. My doctor suggested I eat only cooked foods, no raw fruit or salads and this did help, so much so that I thought I was cured until it came back 3 days ago. Do you know what is wrong with my stomach and what I can do to cure it??

Brief Answer:
Explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome

I appreciate your concern

Based on your description it's most likely related to acute gastritis episode which is linked / associated with fatty liver and a hiatal hernia. A cardiac cause should always be ruled out by doing an ekg. In acute flares serum amylase and lipase should also be done to rule out acute pancreatitis. Upper gi endoscopy can be planned and h pylori testing can also be advised. PPIS can be given afterwards. If h pylori eradication is required the they would be combined with antibiotics.

please consult your doctor before taking any further course of action
