What Causes Recurrent Bloating Along With Lower Abdominal Pain?

default
Posted on Sat, 10 Sep 2016
Question: I have had bloating on and off for three days. I had serious pain wrapping around lower abdomen and back making it difficult to get out of bed three nights ago. Now I have same symptoms, increasing in discomfort since a. m. Once I am up I can move around, but getting up and down is hurtful. Back pain above hips on either side of spine as I sit here typing. Pains have not been relieved by anti-gas, 2 Aleve, hot or cold compress. Took laxative about an hour ago as am constipated for me (no gall bladder so usually go after every meal) and ate a peach. Diet has changed recently as spouse is trying to lower sugar and salt.

Brief Answer:
Post cholecystectomial syndrome or Pancreatic irritation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM

I have gone through your query. Post cholecystectomial syndrome or Pancreatic irritation can be the possibilities giving such symptoms.
When you undergone surgery for removal of Gall bladder?

Taking proton pump inhibitors like Esomeprazole (Nexium) and motility enhancers like domperidone will be helpful in this case. Nexium you can get as over the counter. You can also take antacids containing anaesthetic like Mucaine gel.
If no improvement then you should undergo ultrasound examination to rule out problems with pancreas (pancreatitis).
Avoid fatty ,spicy foods ,carbonated drinks, coffee and alcohol. Avoid aleve (Ibuprofen) as it can make the condition worse.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.

I went to urgent care. Results for urine test show small values for ketones, blood, and leukocytes. Culture available in three days. ( husband had back ache, later followed by possible seizure, cellulitis, slight enlargement of hydrocephalus. now in recovery after heavy antibiotic dosing.) At follow up with my regular care doctor will share your hypotheses. I have had two doses cipro so far. Back continues to make standing following sitting and lying down difficult from pain. bloating continues following anti gas pill and omeprazole. Tylenol not effective at present.

What about meningitis? Son has been present in community outbreak has occurred.

Brief Answer:
Uncontrolled blood sugar also should be ruled out

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up.

As ketones are present in urine uncontrolled blood sugar should be ruled out. You can do a blood test for this or use blood sugar monitor machine for this. Urinary infection can coexist in that case and also can give abdominal symptoms.
If blood sugar is normal then you can take cranberry juice or barley water. Taking sodium hydrogen citrate syrup in water is also good.
You can continue cipro and wait for culture report. It can be changed if needed after culture report.
For meningitis high fever , neck stiffness or rashes will be present. Your symptoms are not characteristic for this.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
