What Causes Rectal Bleeding After Diarrhoea?

default
Posted on Fri, 25 Jul 2014
Question: Hello, My name is XXXXXXX I've had a terrible bout with diarrhea for weeks. I suffered with the pain of burning. I went to a hemmoroid specialist and was given a successful rectal exam. I didn't have hemmoroids. I had a stressful life experience which caused me not to have an appetite. My digestive system, I feel, was messed up. Recently, I have been eating normal and my stool got back to somewhat normal. It's been ok for 4 days so far. However, today I has some blood in my stool. Worried.

Brief Answer:
anal fissure? lifestyle changes. colonoscopy

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I went through the query and understood your concern.

After long days of diarrhoea the common causes of bleeding per rectum are anal fissure or infection. Since bleeding is associated with pain at anal region and considering stress ful life the cause may be anal fissure. But any internal cause cannot be ruled out.

So no need to worry much. Follow some simple measures like
1. You should visit toilet or defecation only when you feel to defecate. Don't stress yourself during defecation.
2. Plenty of fluids and fibre diet.
3. For pain application of lignocaine gel will help you.
4. Practice regular food habit.
5. Daily 30 min outdoor activities.
6. Yogurt or curd or probiotics daily intake.
These measures will help you.

If the bleeding continues or if associated with any other clinical features like weight loss, weakness or continuous diarrhoea or severe pain abdomen then needs colonoscopy and abdominal scan to see the reason for bleeding and also diarrhoea.

I hope this information helps you. Feel free to ask for any further queries. I will be glad to answer them.

Wish you good health.
Regards

I have no pain in my abdomen or anyplace other than bottom which is improving. Doesn't fiber make your bowels loose though? I've not seen any more blood since I last wrote.

Brief Answer:
great. follow lifestyle modifications

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

That's great. But you need to follow the instructions I gave earlier for your wellbeing and also to prevent further recurrence.

High fibre diet will help in bulk forming of stool and easy bowel movements. It won't cause loose stools.

I am very happy that your problem is solved.
