What Causes Reccuring Migraine Headache?

default
Posted on Fri, 7 Nov 2014
Question: I have both sinus and migraine. Initially my neurologist advised sibelium 5mg. The migraines were at bay till I used the tablet. It's been more than an year since I stopped the medication. The headaches are returning again. I'm currently using migranil daily. I want to stop using it. This was suggested by a doctor whom I visited a couple of days back for my sinus problem. she says it fluctuates BP. I'm also hypertensive and am using olmazest 20 in the morning and coversyl 4mg in the night. Please advice.

Brief Answer:
Restart the proven drug

Detailed Answer:
XXXX

My suggestion to you is to restart the proven drug which kept the migraines at bay, sibelium is a wonder drug for migrainuers.

Along with that I advise riboflavin and Magnesium, both up to 400mg per day and massage therapy for all my patients who come with frequent attacks of migraine. You can ask the same to your local doctor. He can help you with his experiences.

If your hypertensive make sure it is right under control as migraineurs have severe problems with high blood pressure and you should be on top of it to control with exercise, low salt diet, and weight reduction.

I am waiting if you have further questions.

Is Migranil a medicine that I can continue in case of severe headaches?
I am actually taking Migranil on a daily basis.
Will there be any side affects if I discontinue the medicine immediately?
Are there any replacement medicines for Migranil that I can use?

Brief Answer:
Migranil has little to no role as preventive agent

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Apologies for the late reply...

Migranil has little to role as migraine preventive agent. Further every day use can prove detrimental with respect to blood pressure control. Therefore I will not recommend you use it every day.

Based on how much and how long you been using that migranil drug, it can cause some withdrawal effects upon abrupt stopping. Your doctor can monitor those withdrawal symptoms and plan gradual withdrawal accordingly.

We have various other agents as replacement for every day migranil. And as I mentioned earlier since you have used sibelium successfully in the past, I will name it as the first choice agent. You can discuss about going back on it with your doctor.

Hope I am clear.

Regards
