What Causes Rashes On The Buttocks In An Infant?

default
Posted on Mon, 25 Sep 2017
Question: Hello

My 18 month old son has developed a rash on his behind. I've attached some pictures. What can this be? We usually change his diaper immediately after he poops and we always put zinc cream. It's unusual for him to develop such a rash.

I had molluscum on my arm 2 weeks ago which were treated by nitrogen twice. This doesn't look the same. I was afraid I could have given it to him.

Brief Answer:
Looks like diaper rash or atopic dermatitis or skin allergy

Detailed Answer:
Hi... I am glad that you have posted the pics before me asking for them. I have gone through the images and I feel that this could be -
1. Diaper rash
2. Atopic dermatitis
3. Urticaria or Skin allergy

I suggest you use cotton cloth diaper for him. More importantly you need to make sure the area doesn't stay wet.

You can apply Siloderm ointment there thrice a day after ablution.

Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.

Brief Answer:
Molluscum is a possibility

Detailed Answer:
Hi... molluscum contagiosum possibility may not have been considered if you did not have it. But with a positive history I would still keep it as the fourth option. But at the first glance this does not look like molluscum contagiosum. But I suggest you to consult a paediatric Dermatologist to be for sure.
