What Causes Racing Heart At Night?

default
Posted on Thu, 13 Nov 2014
Question: It is 2 am and I just woke up FOR NO REASON. I was hot and my heart was pounding. I have been having a hard time sleeping through the night recently. I hate waking up at this time … I get worried about getting back to sleep. I am a 57 year old female and am on hormone replacements, but i did forget to take my progesterone last night … am going to do that right now. Who on earth am I sending this off to in the middle of the night?

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

Waking up at the middle of the night could be because of several reasons including menopause. I need to know a few more details in order to help you

1. How often is this happening and for how long?
2. Have you go your thyroid profile checked?
3. Are you stressed about something lately?
4. What time do you go to sleep? Do you sleep in the afternoons as well?

Please get back to me, I am awaiting your reply

Brief Answer:
Anxiety

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for getting back

It looks like you are suffering from anxiety which confounded by the fact that you are on hormonal replacement therapy.

I suggest you to do the following

1. Tab Betaloc is the ideal drug for you at the moment to reduce your anxiety.
2. Ativan is not the right drug as it only induces sleep but does not help in sustaining it, a better drug would be clonazepam
3. Try yoga or mediation for half hour in the morning
4. Do not miss your hormones
5. Get thyroid profile and blood sugars done. Diabetes and thyroid disorders causes similar problems

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
