What Causes Pus Filled Bumps On Upper Right Gum?

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Jun 2016
Question: I have two small pus filled bumps on my upper right gum, right next to the first of three implant screws I had installed last fall. I have a number of other implants, all successful, because I keep losing my teeth to dry mouth and decay both brought on by radiation therapy twenty years ago. My dental surgeon prescribed two course of antibiotics and the bumps got smaller but didn't entirely go away. X-rays show nothing amiss and the implant screws are strong and firmly seated. There is no pain when I press on the area and there is no visible surrounding inflammation. When I drain the bump, pus comes out but no blood. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Can be Peri-implantitis, need surgical intervention

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I've gone through your history and understand your concern..

Thanks for writing to HCM..

As per your history, you might be having Peri implantitis, that is inflammation around implant leading to pus accumulation due to loss of bone support. Such condition occurs due to bacterial contamination and requires surgical intervention like mechanical debridement of pus after exposing implant and irrigation with medications followed by placing apical flap using bone grafts.

You may consult Oral surgeon for further treatment plan.

Hope I answered your query , let me know if you're having further doubts..

Wishing you good health
