What Causes Pulsating Sensation Below Sternum And Loose Stool?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Jun 2015
Question: In connection with eating, and occasionally with stooping to pick up a 25-lb. object (for example), I feel a strange sensation about an inch below and to my right of that little tab at the bottom of my sternum, essentially between that tab and the beginning of the curvature toward the back of my bottom right rib. The sensation is sort of a pulsating sensation. Also, it seems that my BMs have been a bit looser and occasionally yellowish. I am 58 years old, not overweight and in generally good health, had a colonoscopy five years ago with no issues, take potassium supplements because of Barter's Syndrome (kidneys waste potassium, diagnosed 1993), still have my gallbladder, previously have had no digestive issues but have had occasional bouts of gout in recent years (not for many months, since drinking cherry juice and eating cherries when in season). Any diagnostic thoughts as to what I might be experiencing? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Diagnosis

Detailed Answer:
I understand your description of the unusual sensation.

This will require systematic assessment. When I see someone like you in my practice I order the following tests in addition to a thorough physical examination:

CBC
CMP
TSH
Free T4
HbA1c
Lipids
USG abdomen

The diagnostic possibilities for such symptoms are practically limitless.

I also suggest seeing a gastroenterologist in person
