What Causes Protruding Sore On Arch Of Foot?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Jun 2014
Question: I have a protruding sore on the arch of my foot for over a year. It started as a blister and never healed over. It now is the size of a dime and protrudes and wet. It is not infected but weeps. I keep it covered and clean and have seen doctors who say it is healthy. It seems to be getting worse and won't grow over. Is there anything I can use on it?

Brief Answer:
Please answer and post photo of lesion.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HCM.

As you said you have protruding sore on arch of foot. And it started as blister before one year. It is wet and oozing. It is not growing, but not healing. This much history is given by you. But to come to some coclusion, I have to ask few questions...

1) did you have injury before the lesion?

2) describe the lesion.

3) do you have any other skin or systemic disease?

4) past history of any disease or surgery or trauma?

5) family history of any disease?

6) any addiction or bad habit ?

Please answer above questions. And do not forget to post the photos of affected part..so that I can help in better ways.

Thanks.

I did not have a trauma there before, but it only started as a small sore, being repeatedly irritated there getting worse. It has stabbed over a few times but never permanently. The protrusion is round about the size of a dime to nickel. It is red and very clean looking. It stays wet and does ooze clear fluid. It protrudes enough that it is uncomfortable in closed In shoes. I do work on my feet 10 hours a day which I know aggravates it. It does not bother me, only if rubbed or with pressure
I do not have any history of disease or other trauma. My father his diabetic which I have been tested for with negative results.
I do not have any addictions or bad habits other than being on my feet a lot. I am not overweight and do wear practical foot wear.
Doctors have swabbed it for infection etc and found nothing, claiming that it is a mystery and appears to be a healthy sore other than it will not regrow skin.
I did use a strong peroxide, 30 percent on it in hopes to dry it up. I believe it burnt the tissues and surrounding area causing more damage.

Brief Answer:
Pyogenic granuloma.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome back.

Thanks for posting photo. I saw your photo.

The disease you suffer from long time is pyogenic granuloma.

Pyogenic granuloma is adom shaped lesion made up of proliferating capillaries seperated by thick fibrous bandsand surrouded by epthelial collarette. The cause is unknown. It may appear as bright red, dusky red, violaceous red or brown black papule.

Pyogenic granuloma arise suddenly, attain a stable size and persist without treatment.

Treatment of pyogenic granulomas (PGs) most commonly consists of shave removal and electrocautery or surgical excision with primary closure.

In your case, a shave excision and electrocautery under local anesthesia is the treatment of choice. To provide an adequate cure rate, all vascular granulation tissue must be removed or cauterized.

New treatment options may include topical treatment with imiquimod 5% cream. It is a synthetic imidazoquinoline heterocyclic amine .

Despite the necrosis, foul odor, and purulent drainage noted occasionally with pyogenic granulomas (PGs), antibiotic therapy is rarely required.

You consult dermatologist or surgeon. Then you may go for suggested treatment.

Following removal of the pyogenic granuloma (PG), routine wound care is the only treatment required.

Follow-up visits are required only if the lesion recurs.

If the lesion recurs and histopathology confirms the diagnosis, the recurrent lesion may be treated with any of the method as suggested.

I think my answer would be helpful to you for further treatment. Still, any query, you may ask.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks.
