What Causes Prolapsed Uterus?

default
Posted on Tue, 9 Sep 2014
Question: So, while trying to insert a tampon, it felt as if something was in the way. When I checked, I can feel my cervix is longer than it normally is... Is this normal? What can be the cause?
I am 38 yrs old, had four normal births (youngest is 9), no history of STIs.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Hi,

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.

Before answering your questions I want to ask some questions from you.
Are you really sure that what you feel is your cervix? have you ever felt it before? Do you have any other symptoms apart from feeling cervix low - like urinary symptoms, pain during sexual intercourse, abnormal discharge, etc?

In my opinion it can be your cervix or it may be hymen (that is torn during child birth).

In normal menstrual cycle cervix feels high during ovulation and low during menstrual periods.

Sometimes tampon insertion may be done incorrectly. It is to be inserted towards the back.

I do have other diagnosis in mind. But I need details about your symptoms from you to be better able to help you. In my opinion you should get a vaginal examination done by a gynecologist to see what is there which interferes with tampon insertion.

I think I have answered your query. If you have further questions I will be happy to help you.
Good luck.
Regards
Dr. Richa

I am positive it is my cervix and yes I have felt it before. I don't notice any other symptoms aside from painful cramping and my period is heavy, but my period has recently been mildly abnormal, which I figured was possibly the very beginning of menopause. Short cycle, longer periods some months, shorter other months. (My mother started early too)
I have never had an issue with tampons before, I am aware that during menstruation cervix is lower, this is noticeable more so.
Thank you

Hi,

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Nice to see you again.
In my opinion you should get a vaginal examination done to see what interfere in your tampoon structure.
One thing in my mind that it can be prolapse of the uterus but your symptoms are not very much suggestive of it.
May be it is the beginning of the disease.
So please go and get it done and please revert back to me.
I think this information is useful to you, if you have further questions I will be happy to answer you.
Good luck.
Regards
Dr. Richa
