Posted on Mon, 9 Jun 2014
Question: I am 22 weeks pregnant with a complete placenta previa. I am not experiencing any bleeding but I am having a lot of tightness and pressure in my abdominal area. Is this normal? Should I call my doctor now or try to get in to be seen tomorrow?

Brief Answer:
Can consult tomorrow.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The feeling of tightness and pressure in the pelvic area at 22 weeks can be due to mild uterine contractions- XXXXXXX Hick's or due to stretching of the uterine ligaments. This is a common problem and is not worrisome. You can consult your gynecologist to get uterine muscle relaxants prescribed for symptomatic relief.
Do take a bed rest in left lateral position till then for relief.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
Dr. Rakhi Tayal.
