What Causes Presence Of Mucus At Back Of Throat?

Question: I feel a lot of mucus on the back of my throat that cause discomfort when trying to sleep.

I appreciate your concern

Based on your description , it appears to be related to a sinus or throat infection.
Topical steroid nasal spray and oral anti histamines can be advised.
Mucolytic such as guifenesin can also be advised to thin it and help easy removal.
If it persists despite this then a course of antibiotics can also be added in consultation with your doctor. For now you can do steam inhalation and take oral anti allergic medication.

I would like to add that the discomfort makes me feel as if I am choking when I lie down to sleep. Does this change your answer?

Sinusitis or throat and tonsil infection can lead to respiratory obstruction. An ENT consultation should be done to look for such a cause. Other than that my recommendations would remain the same.
