Brief Answer:
It is generally benign and stops on its own

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for posting your query at HealthCareMagic. The presence of blood in the semen (ejaculate) is also called hematospermia. Blood in semen can be caused by many conditions affecting the male genitourinary system. Areas affected may include the bladder, urethra, the testicles, the tubes that distribute semen from the testicles (known as the seminal vesicles), the epididymis (a segment of the spermatic ducts that serves to store, mature, and transport sperm), and the prostate gland. Infections, inflammation of the prostate or other areas, calculi (stones), polyps in the urethra, tumors or ejaculation duct obstructions may be the cause. Usually blood in the semen is benign and resolves on its own. Treatment, if indicated, depends upon the underlying cause.

Hence, a look into the cause might be required. You can read more at http://www.webmd.com/men/guide/blood-in-semen-hematospermia-causes-symptoms-tests-treatments?page=2 . Under normal circumstances you can wait for it to resolve on its own.

Hope that I have been able to resolve your query. Feel free to communicate back in case of further queries if any.

About how long should i wait? Does that mean stop having sex or can i perform sex as normal?

Brief Answer:
You can continue with your normal life

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking back. Yes, you can have sex and continue with your normal life. Right at the beginning, I had insisted you to visit a doctor so that you can identify the underlying cause, although it might not always be important but good to do to be on the safer side. You can wait for a week or so and it is expected to resolve by then.
