What Causes Popping Sensation Near Ribcage?

default
Posted on Mon, 8 Dec 2014
Question: Hello last night i was woken with heart palpitations & ended up dozing off to feeling a sudden pop sensation in my right side of my stomach, closer to ribcage height, i happened to be laying on my left side. I did have a bit of gas indigestion & flatulance after but have never had that pop feeling before. It was literally like there was a small balloon inside my stomach that popped. But i had no pain so just wondering what it could have been as I am really worried about whether it could have been an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm? Many thanks.

Brief Answer:
Do ultrasound for aneurysm and indigestion problem

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
I dr simit have gone through your question.
Do you have history of high blood pressure?
Do you smoke?

Here, my possibility:
The pop sensation in abdomen with palpitation especially in lying position should be investigated with ultrasound of abdomen after discussion with your family physician, as these symptoms are common in aortic aneurysm and ultrasound is best investigation to rule out aortic aneurysm.
The problem of flatuence and indigestion is also should be investigated with ultrasound.
Avoid oily, fatty diet and avoid sleep on left side for gastric and indigestion problem.
Hope I have answered your question.
Would be happy to help you in future.

Hi thanks for your reply. I havent had high blood pressure & dont smoke. The palpitations were my heart & once they settled down & i dozed off, i felt the pop on my right side of my stomach but no pain so is this still likely to be an aortic aneurysm without any pain? Many thanks

Brief Answer:
Could be Anxiety related symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for the details.

After knowing the details, I feel that the chances of aortic aneurysm is very rare, the symptoms could be due to Anxiety. Observe for similar symptoms in future, and see your doctor for complete physical examination.

Hope I answered your question.
