What Causes Popping Of A Blood Vessel In The Calf?

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Jun 2016
Question: One week ago a blood vessel popped in the calf of my right leg. I large painful bump appeared. I went to an emergency service and was told it would turn purple, blue and yellow. But it didn't. I also had to take my wife to ER with chronic, violent coughing. They diagnosed severe upper respiratory infection and prescribe appropriate medication. But meanwhile, I missed a whole night of sleep. Now the leg hematoma swelled a bit larger and seems a bit harder, but hardly any discoloration, just a trifle of blueness. It is painful to walk. I have to go to work on Monday. What should I do?

Brief Answer:
It could be Superficial thrombophlebitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
As per your description, it looks like Superficial thrombophlebitis.
In my opinion, you should get an Ultrasound of the affected lower limb to confirm the diagnosis.
Till then, you can use Anti inflammatory tablet and hot and wet compression.
Please consult your surgeon and proceed accordingly.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards
