What Causes Pink Eye?
Question: My husband went to a walk in clinic with pink eye. While the doctor was examining his eye, she noticed the pupil in his left eye was considerably smaller than his right eye. She said it seemed to be responding normally, though. She asked him to follow up with his eye doctor , which he did. His eye doctor checked his vision in that eye and it was excellent . They also checked the pressure in that eye and it was normal. He just got over a very bad upper respiratory infection that they are treating with an antibiotic. His eye doc is referring him to an eye specialist just to make sur everything is ok. What could be going on? He is 58 years old and in excellent health

I reviewed your history.
It seems from the history that your husband is having pink eye and pupil in that eye is smaller than the fellow eye.
Pink eye is infection of the eye in the form of conjunctivitis and requires treatment by the use of antibiotic eye drops.
The smaller pupil in that eye can be because of associated inflammation of cornea or uvea in the form of keratoconjunctivitis or keratouveitis. Since vision and eye pressure is normal no need to worry this will become normal with treatment of inflammation associated with pink eye.
I usually treat this condition with topical anti-inflammatory drugs like Nepafenac eye drops along with antibiotic eye drops.
The other rare possibilities that need to be considered are Horners syndrome, here there will be small pupil associated with drooping of the eye lid, decreased or absence of sweating on the face...
In your husband's case it is appearing probably because of inflammation as I have mentioned above and no need to be worried as it will resolve.
Do consult your eye specialist for examination to confirm the diagnosis and treatment accordingly.
