Question: My 4 year old has been up all night vomiting and its very thick like the consistency of chewed food. I've never seen thick vomit like this. Any ideas why?

Brief Answer:
It's mucus

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
From your description it looks like your child has had a viral bug or food poisoning.
The thick content is probably undigested food mixed with mucus.
mucus is the secretion of stomach normally present in all of us.
I would usually prescribe ondansetron 2 mg thrice daily till vomiting settles.
Also keep your child hydrated with ors solution and plenty of water.
If your child becomes dull with poor intake and low urine output, consult doctor immediately.
Regards
Dr Arun
