What Causes Persistent Pain On The Spine?

Question: Pain on both sides of spine in lumbar and very painful to push in on spine. I believe it is the L3 vertabrae. both legs are tinggling and trouble standing this morning getting out of bed. This started two days ago after getting out of bed.

Been to an urgent care yesterday where they barely examined me and gave me codeine and said it is muscular. pain was so bad today went to the ER. They did not touch my back looked at me as if I was crazy and said it is probably muscular and they would have perscribed the same as the urgent care. They refused to even consider any imaging. Concerned and do not know where to go from here. Not sure why there is so much push back . Will reachout to GP tomorrow. Looking for any insight before going to GP. I have pulled, and bruised lower back muscles before and this is different. sharp pain right on the spine and nothing is helping with the pain. Help...

Thanks for posting your query.
It seems you are suffering from degenerative disc disease & it occurs due to repetitive overload or stress to the disc & it increases the risk of disc herniation & spinal canal stenosis.
For this condition you have to do stretching & strengthening exercises in which you have to stretch tight muscle & strengthen weakened ones which will alleviate stress on facet joint and disc.

Since there is only tingling of the leg it suggests that the affection of nerve root is only minimal.
Such minor symptoms are usually taken care of by Methylcobalamin supplements which you can take after consulting your orthopedician.

Do not lift heavy objects, especially after bending down. Eat a healthy wholesome meal which should satisfy your minerals and proteins requirement.
The main treatment of such pain is bed rest along with pain killers and muscle relaxants. Muscle relaxants can help with your symptoms if used in appropriate dosage in combination with a potent analgesic.
You can get the appropriate drugs prescribed from your Orthopedician after examination.
Meanwhile you can follow these measures:
- If the pain is severe, you need bed rest till the pain resolves.
- Get some analgesics prescribed and apply analgesic spray or ointments.
- While resting, keep a pillow under your knees if it doesn't bother you.
- Avoid lifting heavy objects.
- Back strengthening exercises and stretching exercises for your hamstrings daily as advised by a Physiotherapist.
- Avoid exercises in times of pain.
- Improvise your posture while sitting.
- Using an LS contour belt of appropriate size might be helpful in providing support to back muscles.
