What Causes Persistent Pain After Inguinal Hernia Surgery?
Question: On Friday, July 14, I underwent right inguinal hernia surgery. It was a large hernia. According to the surgeon, it went fine. $ days later, the pain has not decreased, it hurts and it feels like a burning sensation. Should I be worried or is this normal?

Hurting and feeling like a burning sensation is indicative of nerve entrapment which is a known sequel of surgery for a large hernia as small nerves can get entrapped in the healing process, stitch or mesh and can cause such a pain.
Was this an open surgery or laparoscopic?
Mesh must have been put in.
Is there any swelling or redness?
Is the pain local to operation site or also referred to the scrotum or inner thigh?
Any other symptoms?

It was an open surgery with a mesh implant. There is some redness and the pain is local to the operation site. No other symptoms

Some redness at the incision site is common as a part of healing process. But is there is throbbing sensation too, infection must be ruled out by examination by the Surgeon, tests of blood if required.
Pain is usually absent or minimal after a few days of surgery. But in large hernias the dissection needed is also large hence pain sometimes.
