What Causes Persistent Nausea After Eating A Meal?

default
Posted on Tue, 19 Sep 2017
Question: Twice in the last 2 weeks I have experienced strong nausea about an hour after eating. There has also been moderate pain high in the upper abdomen. Last night the pain was exceptional and I vomited twice. I have experienced periodic distended stomach. I have no appendix and no gall bladder and I have had a nissen fundiplication for GERD. The only common factor has been I ate a square of very dark chocolate before.
What is going on? The only thing trhat helped was 3 beads of arsenicum album 2.0 under the tongue.

Brief Answer:
GERD/ Gastritis, PPIs, metoclopramide

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Based on your history and description , its most likely to be an acute episode/ exacerbation of GERD / gastritis, probably incited by the chocolate consumption.

PPIs like lansoprazole instead of the H2 blocker famotidine with pro kinetic combination of metoclopramide, simethicone and bromelein can be advised for 2 weeks.

If the vomiting episodes persist then review of nissen fundoplication, an upper GI endoscopy and / or a CT abdomen (preceded by an ultrasound abdomen /pelvis as its a less invasive investigation) can be done to look for other causes.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
