What Causes Persistent Halitosis After A Root Canal Procedure?

default
Posted on Thu, 18 Feb 2016
Question: Hi,

My wife has a peculiar problem of bad breath almost everytime and this has been ongoning since last 3 years. She had undergone a root canal for one of her molar tooth in the US and the doctors over there didn't mention any thing apart from the tooth decay she had which was removed as part of the root canal procedure.
However even after that she has the same pro-longing problem of bad breath throughout the day. She even feels dry mouth and is always well hydrated. There aren't additional signs like frequent urination in night or excessive sweating.

Wanted to get your opinion on what could be the underlying cause arising from her stomach or anything else and the necessary advice you could suggest to cure this problem.

Brief Answer:
Possibly sinusitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am Dr Mittal. I have read your message. I think I can help you.
The symptoms of the query are quite suggestive of 2 possible causes.
1. a sinusitis will present frequently with just bad odour from mouth. a x ray PNS waters view will help diagnose the problem.
2. hyperacidity can cause similar symptoms. A trial with tab pantocid 40 mg twice a day before food may help.
With that use betadine mouth wash 4 times a day.
An ENT evaluation mat help if above advice doesn't help.

I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information contained in this message will be able to help you find the best solution for your problem. Best of luck. Dr Mittal.
