Brief Answer:
Shortening of the penis due to srarring of the Tunica Albugenia .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query ,

Peyronies disease primarily involves Tunica Albugenia a sheath that envelopes the two cylindrical erectile bodies Corpora Cavernosa .It is the scarring of this sheath(Tunica Albugenia ) that causes shortening and curvature of penis .

Most of the time cause of the scarring is either a trauma to the penis which may be unnoticed or due to genetically inherited.

As regards your query regarding shortening of penis after surgery I would state that it is a known complication of the surgery .The shortening which is already there gets enhanced further after the surgery This is due to excision of the portion of the affected Tunica Albugenia along with part of normal Tunica Albugenia around it .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Thanks, what length of shortening occurs due to the scarring, is it due to the severity of the scar?

Answered by Dr. Dr. P. T. Patil (6 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Shortening depend upon the length of the Tunica Albugenia involved

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up The shortening of the penis is directly proportional to the length and width of the Tunica Albugenia that is involved and scarred .More the length of this sheath involved more is the scarring leading to more shortening and curvature of penis .

So a longer penis would lose more length?, though it would be better to have a longer penis to begin with?
also what is the amount of length someone would usually lose?

Brief Answer:
The length of a penis is never constant in every individual .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up.
The length of the penis in a individual is never a constant and varies during every act of erection and intercourse .It is usually the hardness of the penis that is important as far sexual satisfaction of both the partners is concerned .
The woman's vagina on arousal is about 4 inches in length so the hard penis of a length of 4.5 inches on erection is adequate to have enjoyable sex and to satisfy female partner .

Thanks and Regards.

Brief Answer:
The length of penis on erection varies according to blood flow to Penis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up.
The length of the penis varies from person to person according to blood flow to penis which in its turn depends upon the level of sexual stimulation and arousal.

I am unable to comment on shortening of 5 cm in length after surgery as I have not come across such case .

I think the patient would be aware of trauma, that's scaremongering, so you think people shouldent bother having sex because I won't if it's just going to lead to this if I cant even tell if it's happened why even bother, Il just give up on life
