What Causes Peeling Off Of Skin On Palms?

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Jul 2014
Question: Hi there, I have had very sore peeling hands for the last couple of weeks. Sometimes this flares up on me but never as bad as right now. I am using hydrocortisone 1% daily for the last week or more plus an emollient which was recommended by my pharmacist over the last 5 days. My hands do not seem to be clearing up at all though and look terrible and really dry. I've also used some oils on them to try to keep them moist

Please provide more history

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to healthcare magic.

I understand from your query that you are having peeling off of your skin on your palms.

With your history in mind, I would consider the possibilities of entities called " Recurrent focal palmar peeling", " Pompholyx" , " Lichen planus " and " Tinea manum".

Could you provide me a few more details so that I can assess better?

1. Is this problem recurrent or is this the 1 st time you have had this? By recurrent, I mean to say that the hands become completely normal and starts peeling again after a few months. If recurrent, is it seasonal?

2. Do you handle any chemicals/ caustics/ do gardening?

3. Does it itch?

4. Do you notice any blisters before the peeling begins?

5. Do you have any peeling on your soles as well?

You have a feature to upload the images by yourself at the right side of the query page, please utilize that so that I can answer your query better. You can also send the image as attachment to YYYY@YYYY , with the subject as 'Attn: Dr. Johny Chacko'.

Please revert back with the additional history and clear clinical pictures.

Regards,
Dr. Johny Chacko
