What Causes Painful Swelling In The Upper Abdomen?
Umbilical hernia or incisional hernia or infection
Did you underwent any laparoscopic surgery in past? If so then this triangular swelling might be incisional hernia.
If there is no any previous history of laparoscopic surgery then it might be due to congenital umbilical hernia (asymptomatic type).
In either of these cases, swelling become prominent on coughing and you can feel impulse while coughing on touching the swelling.
If you have foul smelling discharge from umbilicus associated with this swelling then it might be due to inflammation and/or infection of umbilicus. This require antibiotic therapy and surgery if pus discharge continue with antibiotic therapy.
In case of hernia, you might require surgery only as surgery is only cure for any type of hernia.
