What Causes Painful Swelling Below Left Ear After Eating?

default
Posted on Mon, 11 Jan 2016
Question: I have an area just below my left ear that gets swollen and painful after eating. The swelling goes down over 15-30 minutes, and I have been applying heat which seems to speed the process. I called to see if I can get an appointment with an ENT, but I will have to wait a month. Is this something that I can wait for, or should I go to an urgent care clinic?

Painful Swelling below left ear / Under Evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Brief Ans- Painful Swelling below left ear / Under Evaluation

My Impression-
Sialeadenitis of Left Parotid due to ? Parotid duct Sialolithiasis.

Hi Dear,Thanks for your query to HCM.
Read and reviewed the facts of your query, in context of your health concerns.
I would need more information about following lead question--
How long this painful swelling started coming on eating?
Any past complaint in the mouth with painful illness?
Any fever with chills in the swelling below left hair?
Any more information on how it started first and noticed first?

Await more information as asked above.

My Impression about your your health issue-
Based on the facts of query, Prima Facie-the swelling below left ear, Seems to be due to Left Parotid Gland Sialadenitis, caused due to Parotid Salivary duct stone(Sialolithiasis) obstructing the Salivary secretion flow from Parotid Gland, while eating process starts.

Investigations-
I would suggest you to check with the General Surgeon / Or ENT Surgeon.
They would investigate with X-ray of the Left Parotid Gland. And clinical / physical examination of the floor of Mouth.

Remedy Suggested-
Assess and Evaluate the Swelling of the Left Parotid Gland.
Examination of the floor of the Mouth to locate for any stone in the Parotid Salivary duct.
Avoid Citric fruits
Tab-Ciplox 500 mgm + Tab Motrin 400 mgm x 5 days to control Partotitis
Surgical Excision of the Stone obstructing the Parotid Salivary duct would resolve your problem of the recurring swelling below the left ear.
Hope this reply would help you to plan proper treatment with your doctors there.

After getting more information more replies in that context would be given.

Welcome for any further query in this regard.
