What Causes Painful Spot On Sole Of Foot?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Apr 2014
Question: I have a spot on the medial side of the sole of my foot just in front of the heel that will randomly burn as if something is stuck in it. This has been going on for about two weeks. It's not a constant pain but often wakes me in the middle of the night. If I press on the spot, it stops hurting for a moment. I suffered from lower leg edema for many years. Due to a drastic diet change that eliminated processed foods and refined sugars, the edema has improved tremendously. When I had extreme edema, I'd have no feeling in my feet. I'd almost rather have no feeling than deal with this random pain that is excruciating

Brief Answer: Can be due to infection. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for posting your query. The random excruciating pain at only one spot on the foot can be due to a chronic infection or a foreign body in the area that is more likely when you do not have any sensation in the foot. An abscess also needs to be ruled out. This needs a direct examination by an orthopedician and investigations like MRI scan which can detect the soft tissue abnormalities in the area. Till then take a mild pain killer avoid weight bearing on the foot and keep it elevated on two pillows while resting. I hope this answers your query.
