What Causes Painful Lymph Nodes?

Question: So nice of you. I have had pain in my lymph nodes for several months but they are not swollen. It has moved from my underarms to the groin. It's still not swollen. It feels tight when I lower my arm or close my legs but there is no discernible swelling to the touch.

Hello and thank you for your question.

If you are having painful lymph nodes it would be good for you to see a doctor. Lymph nodes often become reactive when we are trying to fight off infections. The lymph nodes are part of our immune system. Your doctor would need to do an exam and possibly some blood tests to make sure that everything is normal. If you develop high fevers or swollen nodes then you should be seen right away and you may need to go to emergency. If they are just painful as you describe, you could try some warm compresses and ibuprofen to ease the pain, but I still think you should make an appointment with a doctor for further assessment.
