What Causes Painful Lumps On Leg?

default
Posted on Sat, 14 Jun 2014
Question: Granddaughter (7 yrs, old) awoke at 3 AM in horrific pain in both her lower legs, I noticed that two lumps on each leg had also developed. They were about the size of her ancle bone. One on the top of her foot and one just below and to the lefy of her knee. She was in obvious pain. so I gave her the prescribed dose of Tylenol and used a large moist heat heating pad in her legs. She settled down in about 10 minutes abd slept until late the next morning. The lumps had reduced in size. but were still palpable. She suffers from lyme disease, but I have never heard anyone mention this insodent as part of that horrid condition.

Brief Answer:
Possibility of viral illness/infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello

I have studied your case.

Sudden appearance of lump suggests possibility of viral illness/infection.

Another possibility of autoimmune reaction leading to swelling.

Clinical examination is essential to look for enlarged lymph node.
You may need to investigate in form of complete blood count, ESR, CRP, and if required fine needle aspiration cytology.

You may need to consult your doctor to confirm diagnosis.
Till time you can start medication and antibiotic consulting your treating doctor.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX for your response. I will check her lymph nodes and consult a physician if they are swollen. Do you think the sudden onset of this problem could be related to her lyme disease?

Hello again,

It is less likely related to her lymes disease.
