What Causes Painful Knee And Difficulty Walking?

default
Posted on Thu, 13 Nov 2014
Question: Hello,

I have a pain on my left side that starts with my knee and goes all the way to my hip. Both my hip and knee have occasional swelling. I am 41 and had two blood clots eight years ago as a result of a torn calf muscle. The pain is at its worst in the evening. Walking and standing become painful, yet I can play tennis in the morning and only feel sore after finishing playing. I am currently living in the Yucatan, so I cannot see my normal physician. Thanks for your time.

Brief Answer:
May be deficiency of vitamins.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

After going through your query I concluded that you may be having deficiency of vitamins.

I want you to do fallowing test to know the cause.
1.Vitamin D3level
2 Vitamin B12 level
3.Blood sugar fasting and PP (to know diabetic status)
4.T3,T4,TSH (to know thyroid status)
5.X-ray of left knee and hip (to see their status)

Furthermore I empirically treat my such patients by:-
1.EVION LC
2.VITAMIN D3(if it is low)
3.VITAMIN B COMPLEX AND VITAMIN C
4.CALCIUM
5.Mecobalmine
6.ANALGESICS such as ibuprofen to relieve pain.

You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Wishing you good health.
Take care.

Hello Doctor XXXXXXX

Thanks for your response. To follow up, I get plenty of sunlight doing a variety of activities. Would that eliminate the Vitamin D deficiency thought? My hip and knee experience less pain with Advil, too, which I'm now taking a few times a day. I have also noticed that something is happening with my vision. I've always had 20/20 eye sight, but lately small things have been out of focus up close. And this morning, my vision is a little blurry, even as I type on this screen. This is very unusual for me. Thanks again for your time, XXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Yes,if you have sufficient sun exposure .

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome back.

If you have sufficient sun exposure specially between 11AM to 4PM,then Vitamin D3 deficiency is unlikely. I did not thought of causes related to spine because you can play tennis and pain is not sever. So I think it due to some weakness and deficiency or early changes of osteoarthritis in hip and knee. Your vision has changed,it may age related refraction changes. In your age eye lens also start going less elastic so its focusing power decreases with age called presbyopia. You can consult ophthalmologist for it. Rest of things already discussed.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer.
