What Causes Pain Under The Right Breast In An Elderly Woman?

default
Posted on Sat, 14 May 2016
Question: Hi I am 62 year old female, overweight ( BMI IN 30's). Had CABG 1 vessel in 2008. Hysterectomy, cholie, and bi Lat knee replacements. I am DM II. also have controlled hypertension. Okay here is the question. I will get " a catch" under my right breast several time a week. It's a pressure type feeling, puts me in mind of a hernia. Feels like something pushing up. Can be very uncomfortable rating at worse a 7-8. Last anywhere fron seconds to around 2-3 min. I have to stretch my torso out as much as possible and breath through these. I've asked my PCP about this and my Cardiologist neither know what is causing this. It is happening more often. Any ideas

Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

Your symptoms may be related to:
- Gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD, acid reflux)
- Gallbladder/pancreas issues
- Cardiac arrhythmia

If you were my patient I would recommend to do the following exams to find out what is causing your symptoms:
- Blood work including pancreas enzymes (lipase, amylasemia)
- ECG
- Cardiac ECHO
- Echo stress test
- Abdominal ultrasound
- Upper endoscopy

Meantime I would like to recommend:
- Eat often and in small portions
- Avoid spicy food
- Reduce alcohol to less than a glass of wine per day
- Avoid laying down 3 hours after eating
- Use antacids (daviscon)
- Use prilosec (PPI)

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!

Hi back,

I would like to add the following suggestions :
- Use chamomile tea
- Add magnesium supplement to help with Pvc
- Use betablockers

This will help with Pvc which as I said above may be related to your symptoms ( Cardiac arrhythmia).

Wish you health!
