What Causes Pain Under The Left Breast?

default
Posted on Wed, 23 Jul 2014
Question: My 89 yr old mom-in-law is having pain under her left breast. She had aorta valve replacement and another valve around the heart replaced February 7 of this year. She spends most of her days in a recliner. She had a capsule endoscopy today. What might be causing the pain? It's not constant; it comes and goes..

Brief Answer:
Monitor and collect more information.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this pain that your mom has under the breast.

I have reviewed the information that you have provided. The first comment is that this pain is not a life threatening and does not represent a possible life threatening pathology right now. Unfortunately, more information is needed in order to narrow down the list of possible causes. For now, I will recommend that you monitor and gather more information about this pain over the next days if it persists, which seems very unlikely. This is not a complication from the capsule endoscopy she had today as it is not a constant pain. Most intermittent pain is caused by smooth muscle spasms or irregular contractions and they generally disappear without the need of any special medical intervention. I believe your mom is likely to be in this category.

For now, monitor her pain and symptos. If the pain persist, let us know and provide more information like severity, frequency of recurrence, duration, radiation, etc and whether there are any other associated symptoms like breathing difficulties, sweating, dizziness, etc. This would be helpful to pin point the cause or suggest that she gets further evaluation.

I hope this helps. I wish her well. Thank you so much for using our services and please feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
