Question: hi i have had this condition since i was 17 i am now 52, its being on and off over the years sometimes every couple of months then not have again sometimes for 3 to 4 yrs. i get pains just under my breasts under ribs likes cramps but burning cramps that lasts for hours, sometimes i throw up sometimes i dont. it usually goes away by next day and I'm fine just exhausted, when i was 19 i had a bad attack so by next day when pains had gone i couldn't stand up straight because my stomach muscles were so sore from the cramping pain the day and night before. I've been to many doctors and hv many different reasons from stomach acids, gastro that hasn't moved through and is still in stomach, ibs, ulcers, to they dont know. i have it now but this time it has lasted for 2 weeks the pains haven't gotten bad but are slowly getting that was i feel nauseous all the time and throw up and feel a little better for a little while after the pains come and if i lay down for a couple minutes the go away but are coming more often and staying longer i wake up in morning with them not bad but there i have suffered constipation and until recently i didn't know just how bad i get it could this have anything to do with it maybe I'm very constipated sounds silly i know im so over being sick i can't do anything with my kids its getting very depressing and a little scary

Brief Answer: Costo-chondritis get well with course of medicines Detailed Answer: Hi. Thanks for an elucidate history, nicely put and self-explanatory. It is almost 32 years you are having a typical problem. The attack when you were 19 says it all. You have got a condition called costo-chondritis of the lower ribs on both sides. This is the area from where the abdominal muscles originate. Hence you got the typical sore muscles. The edema produced by costo-chondrits may track down along the muscles. As far your second problem- this time the attack lasted for 2 weeks. The most probable reason is you have have associated problem of constipation and gastro upset thereby. This time the edema in the affected area did not get relief faster as before. So the symptoms. I would advise such a patient to take laxative as constipation itself makes any problem to cause more suffering; depression, feeling a bit scary and sick all add to the problem. IN addition to laxative take Ranitidine, soft bland diet, plenty of oral fluids , try to get sound sleep for early recovery. I would suggest you a treatment for your costo-chondritis; but you have to consult your Doctor, discuss with him and then follow as per his prescription as these may be prescription drugs in your area. I give my patients: Ranitidine Deflazacort - a mild newer steroid with minimum side effects- to be taken in a gradually reducing doses. Serratiopeptidase or Ibuprofen or Diclofenac whatever suits you the most. take this for 1 to 3 weeks. You may not have further attacks. And if at all you get one, start this mixture immediately to get a prompt relief. I repeat: please consult your Doctor for a prescription. It is good that you have no other Medical issues. I hope this helps you the maximum. In fact going to help you. Please feel free to ask for more if you have any further queries.
