Question: I had 11 fractured ribs on August 30th with a collapsed lung etc due to atv accident. I am back to work now but still have pain under my left breast. feels like a tight belt is around my chest. Is this just continued inflamation or a more severe problem? Sue XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

I do not think this is an inflammation. Inflammation does not last so long after injury. Most likely broken ribs along with pneumothorax caused adhesions in the chest, change of chest structure. This can give tight like feeling as well as shortness of breath, pain while coughing.
If you have also back pain, some spine injury can be also the reason.

I suggest you to consult orthopedist (if spine problem seems probable) or thoracic surgeon. Chest CT seems to be a good idea.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
